TRB Grant Idaho 2019

Idaho Schools Score Athletics Grants from California Casualty

Athletes at Initial Point High School in Kuna and Wendell Middle School will benefit from the 2019 California Casualty Thomas R. Brown Athletics Grant program. They are among 64 public middle schools and high schools in 32 states awarded a total of $67,000 to aid sports programs affected by tight budgets.

The Idaho schools each received between $1,000 and $1,500.

Wendell Middle will buy much needed uniforms for the track and cross country teams, while Initial Point High is planning on purchasing upgraded equipment for the football, basketball, and volleyball teams.  The awards were presented at the recent IEA Delegate Assembly in Couer d’ Alene.  Accepting the award for Dave Fry (Kuna/Initial Point H.S. – $1000 [football, basketball, volleyball]) was Shelly Hopkins, Kuna President.

Wendell’s track coach Wendy Smith stated, “The cost of equipment has gone up so much that our athletes have not received new uniforms in over 10 years.”   Peggy Hoy, Region 4 IEA Board of Directors accepted Wendy’s award.

The grant is named for California Casualty Chairman Emeritus Tom Brown, an avid sportsman who has observed that lessons learned on athletic fields – teamwork, confidence and sportsmanship – translate to the classroom and beyond.

Since its inception in 2011, more than $738,000 has been awarded to over 660 schools across the nation.

“The Thomas R. Brown Athletics Grants benefit students and communities, and California Casualty is proud to support that effort,” said Lisa Almeida, Assistant Vice President.
